The photographer and Berlin resident Tilman Brembs has been living in the capital for over 30 years and has been following the cultural and subcultural development of Berlin for just as long. Tilman studied – inspired by his travels – the story behind the moment, finding a new perspective and so recording the particular in the everyday. The photograph lets us travel through time, without any particle accelerator or science fiction. The moment counts and recounts. A photo can also be much more: It may produce a different visual reality; it may not only reflect and fiter the world through the eyes of it’s documentarist, but also be part of the inspiration for the viewer. What’s the story behind the image?
Techno Years 91-97 | Zeitmaschine
As a “house photographer” of the techno magazine Frontpage he was always very close and not just a chronicler of the early Techno years, but rather an integral part of the music scene and party culture. In his archive of 20,000 analog photos, he has a unique record of the development of early techno scene from 1991 – 1997.
His photographs from 20 years of Techno history thus trace the ethnography of this former subculture. His Instagram “https://www.instagram.com/zeitmaschine.analog.rave/” has more than 15k fans and is growing steadily.
